About Us
The Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners, a certified educational institution by the Minister of Human Resources under Sections 118.5 and 118.6 of the Income Tax Act, is a complementary health organization which has, since 1991, set professional and measurble working standards for the feild of complementary health care. This has been done in order to promote and support effective, safe, and ethical, holistic health care practices. We are on the Advisory Committee to the Municipal Licensing and Standards Dept. of Toronto. In order to receive Board designations - recognized by the Holistic Practitioners Business Bylaw of Toronto and federally recognized across Canada - practitioners must have graduated from an approved institution which teach complmentary health care programs that meet our professional standards.
Background
During the past decade the interest in the field of complementary medicine in North America has increased considerably. A variety of factors ranging from the negative impact of western pharmaceutical products to a search for cost efficient healthcare, which have contributed to a growing interest in this sector of health services.
The study of specialization in alternative medicine and the desire to make a career choice in this field is rapidly increasing. Recognition of a particular specialization in alternative medicine as complementary to allopathic treatment is leading to a greater need to prepare well-trained practitioners in the respective areas of alternative medicine.Â
Consequently, there is an imminent need to ensure high standards of skills development for the alternative medicine practitioner and quality care and safety for the consumer. The Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners Inc. (CEBHCP) has undertaken the challenge of developing and maintaining a standard of professional qualifications and practice in the field of alternative medicine.Â
The Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners is providing a leadership role to enhance to credibility of the field of alternative medicine. In pursuing this goal the CEBHCP awards designations to those who meet the educational criteria for their respective field of study.
